WASHINGTON TWP, Ohio (WDTN) – The Washington Township Fire Department said Friday it has promoted William Sutter, a fire inspector for 18 years, to the position of fire marshal in charge of the Division of Fire Safety.
Sutter now oversees risk reduction efforts for the Centerville/Washington Township community, including fire safety inspections, plans review for new construction, fire investigation, and programs in prevention and safety that include school and community outreach and outdoor warning sirens.
Sutter has served as fire inspector since January 2000, conducting fire safety inspections and assisting with plans review, fire investigation, and other division duties. In March, he completed the process to earn the Fire Marshal (FM) credential from the Commission on Professional Credentialing, an entity of the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc. The professional credential places him among an elite group of 114 fire marshals worldwide.
“Bill has been the guy behind the scenes doing the inspections for many years and in that role has dealt with the public and with public officials from the city and county level to the state,” said Fire Chief Bill Gaul. “He’s very knowledgeable, very experienced, and has an unflagging desire to keep the Centerville/Washington Township community safe.”
