The City of Vandalia has a new police chief.

City Manager Jon Crusey announced the promotion of Lt. Kurt E. Althouse.

Althouse will be sworn in on Friday, April 27 at 8:30 a.m. in the Vandalia City Council chambers.

He has served as acting chief since the unexpected death of chief Douglas Knight.

“We are fortunate to have Kurt’s leadership to carry the Vandalia Police Division forward and maintain our department’s standard of excellence,” Crusey said.

Althouse is a native of Tipp City. He spent 22 years with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office before coming to Vandalia as a lieutenant in 2014.
