URBANA, Ohio (WDTN) – Urbana City Schools will be closed Friday in order for students to pay their respects to Troy Byrd, a junior high student who passed away while playing basketball last weekend.

Troy’s family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the junior high gymnasium at the Urbana Elementary and Junior High School. A service will follow at 1 p.m.

I would like to thank the community for their outpouring of support for Troy’s family and our students,” says Superintendent Charles Thiel. “It has been a wonderful tribute to see the number of basketball teams throughout the county and surrounding area showing their compassion by having moments of silence and wearing Troy’s #8.”
