DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The University of Dayton says 2019 was a record year as more than 2,000 graduates walked across the stage during spring commencement ceremonies this weekend.

University of Dayton President Eric Spina addressed the graduates, saying, “Members of the class of 2019, congratulations on your accomplishments. Now armed with your UD diploma, go out into the world with confidence, conviction, and a compassionate heart. Make your life a masterpiece.”

The University of Dayton says it will set another record this year: 3,000 students in total will graduate for the entire academic year.

The ceremony also marked an important milestone: the first ever UD-Sinclair Academy student graduated. Maria Loyd accepted her degree in education.

The UD-Sinclair Academy is a partnership between the two schools who are hoping to make a four-year degree more accessible and more affordable.

Maria Loyd is a Dayton native who hopes to land a teaching job in the area.
