DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Crews battled a fire at UD Arena Monday morning.
Firefighters responded to reports of a fire on the roof of the arena, located on S. Edwin C. Moses Boulevard just before 6 a.m. Monday.
Construction workers tell 2 NEWS they arrived to work and saw flames and smoke coming from an area of the roof. One of the workers called 911.
Fire crews arrived and were able to knock down the fire quickly.
According to fire officials, hot ironwork from construction over the weekend ignited some building materials. UD Arena has been under construction in preparation for the upcoming basketball season.
Authorities say the fire was isolated to a small area. They did not give an estimate of damage caused by the fire.
The University of Dayton released a statement Monday saying a small, isolated fire on the roof was extinguished and no one was hurt.
UD said the investigation is ongoing and work will continue on scheduled on UD Arena.
