DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Thieves made off with beer, cigarettes, and a cash register after breaking into a Dayton convenience store on Wednesday morning.
It happened at Dayton Mart on South Patterson Road and South Smithville Road, just after 5am.
Store owner Rohit Patel says the thieves threw a rock through the front window, breaking it, and then rushing inside.
“He threw it from all the way over there and it was right here when I came,” Patel said – noting the rock wound up on the other side of the store. “So he must be strong.”
Police say the suspect – or suspects – made off with packs of Black and Mild cigars, some cigarettes, a six-pack of Bud Light, an eight-pack of Busch Light, and a case of Milwaukee’s Best beer.
They also stole the cash register with $500 inside. The nearby ATM, however, left untouched.
Patel said when he got to work that morning, the store was wrecked.
“I was worried,” Patel said. “The glass was all over, all the cigarettes and Black and Milds were all over the place.”
It’s the latest in a string of other convenience store break-ins around Dayton. The targets of which, have been ATMs.
