DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Police are investigating after thieves ripped out a wall and stole an ATM from a Dayton business.
Officers responded to an alarm call at Crown Point Beer and Wine Drive Thru on W. Third Street around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday.
When officers arrived, they found heavy damage to the front of the building.
Police say someone used a vehicle to rip out part of a wall on the business.
The owner said he had just restocked the ATM with $10,000 in cash prior to the theft.
“The owners are really nice people. Even the workers are nice people. I come in here everyday. Sometimes 3 or 4 times,” said one patron.
Officers followed drag marks from the machine that went down Crown Avenue, just north of Midway Avenue. Police say that’s likely the location where the suspect or suspects put the machine in a vehicle to transport it from the area.
Locals say the ATM was a convenient option for them.
“It was cheap. It only cost a $1 to use it. They hurt everybody in the community for that,” said a patron who didn’t want to be named.
Police collected evidence at the scene. The report says a pack of cigarettes was located where the drag marks ended near West 3rd St.
The break-in remains under investigation.
