GREENVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) – A massive fire destroyed a barn in Darke County late Thursday night.

The Daily Advocate reports the fire started at the Swine Barn at the Darke County Fairgrounds around 9:15 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fully engulfed barn fire and found the Swine Barn covered in flames.

Crews called for a second, and then a third alarm for the fire, requesting additional ladder companies from the Piqua and Burkettsville Fire Departments. Greenville City Fire, Greenville Township Rescue and Greenville Police also worked the scene of the fire. Mutual aid fire crews from across Darke County also responded.

Firefighters began working to knock down the flames and control the fire. Several surrounding buildings were damaged from exposure to the fire.

Darke County Fair Manager Brian Rismiller said the Swine Barn is used as a storage facility during this time of year. An exact inventory of contents of the barn has not been released, but Rismiller said he knew there were a couple of antique tractors inside, as well as travel trailers, a sail boat and other vehicles.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
