Suspect shot by Kettering officer released from hospital

KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) – The man shot by a Kettering police officer June 21 after a traffic stop has been released from the hospital.

According to police, 31-year-old Wayne Morgan ran from a traffic stop Thursday. The officer who stopped the car chased Morgan and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the officer noticed Morgan had a weapon.

Morgan escaped and ran into an alley, where police say he suddenly turned the officer fired one shot, striking Morgan in the arm.

Kettering police released dash camera video fo the encounter Friday.

The shooting took place within the city of Dayton and the investigation is being handled by the Dayton Police Department. The Kettering Police Department will conduct an internal investigation of the officer’s actions.

The driver of the car was questioned and released at the scene.

Morgan is now in the Montgomery County Jail.
