MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) — A suspect is in custody after an hours-long standoff in Miami Township.

Authorities responded to a weapons complaint at a house on S. Union Road, near Zeck Road, just after 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Police say the incident started with a dispute between roommates. According to police, one of the roommates threatened the other win a gun.

The roommate who was threatened got out of the house and called police, leading officers to the scene.

When officers arrived, they found a man with a gun inside the home. The man refused to come out of the home.

Authorities say the man has fired several shots during the standoff. According to police, it’s unclear whether or not the suspect was firing at officers.

No one was injured.

Authorities negotiated with the man, using a bullhorn to order him to surrender.

Police fired gas cannisters into the home during the standoff.

The suspect surrendered to police around 6:40 a.m. Monday.

Authorities aren’t sure if alcohol, drugs or mental illness were factors in the incident.

Police say the man could face several charges, including menacing and inducing panic.

The suspect is being held at the Montgomery County Jail.
