Surveillance video shows ATM stolen from Dayton mini-mart

Local News

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Thieves broke into an east Dayton grocery store, for the second time, and made off with the ATM that was inside. And, it was all caught on surveillance video.

It happened at Four Points Mini Mart on Gettysburg Avenue, around 5:30am.

Employees showed us the surveillance video of the break-in on their cell phones. You can see a truck, reverse and slam into the front door several times. Another person can be seen pacing, nearby – possibly as a look-out.

Police say the suspects hooked the ATM to the back of the truck and sped off, dragging the machine behind them.

The front door of Four Point Mini Mart is now boarded up after the thieves destroyed it.

A customer at the mini mart today said she’s not exactly shocked by the incident.

“I mean it happens over here,” Brittnee Bell said. “I never knew this got broken into before but it happens, so – not really shocking, at all.”

Another customer, Marvin Ward added: “That’s crazy. I can’t for the life of me understand how a person is going to grab an ATM. I mean, I really can’t. It’s crazy.”

A store employee who did not want to be identified said thieves had tried to steal the ATM before, but failed.

“Well last time they tried to tear it open, they couldn’t get it from the platform,” the employee said. “This time they used a chain or something to snatch it and went up the street with it.”

Police are looking for an older model, GMC or Chevy truck.

They say they discovered a skid trail from the store, caused by the stolen ATM – but it ended just down the street.

Officers recovered a muffler that could be from the suspect vehicle.
