Springfield medical marijuana dispensary could open in a matter of weeks

Local News

MIAMI VALLEY, Ohio (WDTN) – More than 5,400 Ohioans have purchased medical marijuana since sales began in mid-January.

That’s less than one-third of the 19,395 registered patients with recommendations to purchase it.

One likely reason so few people have purchased it is out of the 56 dispensaries with provisional licenses, only nine have been approved to open across the state, so far none in the Miami Valley.

Pure Ohio Wellness, LLC. was awarded two of the nine dispensary licenses in the area.

In a January interview with 2NEWS, they were hoping for a March open date, but say that has been pushed back some.

“Just like any construction process, you always end up getting a few delays with getting your stuff done with the city, but everything is going really smoothly for us,” said Larry Pegram, owner of Pure Ohio Wellness.

Pegram said their Springfield dispensary on West Main Street should open the first week of April.

Their second location on Needmore Road in Dayton, previously housing a hookah lounge, will open a few weeks later.

“Pending inspections, you know we have to get inspected by the state, the medical marijuana control program as well as our local city and governing areas to get inspections on the buildings for the buildouts,” said Pegram.

Pegram said when they open, it will most likely be only flower product.

That’s because the first and only operational processing license to turn the buds into vapor, lotions and other items was awarded by the state Friday, March 8.

Pegram said another hold up with their dispensaries was waiting on their crop to be harvested at their Enon site so they could have their product available for sale.

But he said it was a successful first harvest and is now at a testing facility.

“That’s why we wanted to make sure before we open, that we would not run out,” said Pegram. “We will definitely have a sufficient amount of product being that we are a cultivator as well.”

2NEWS has reached out to the other dispensary companies for a proposed opening date.

We will update that information when it becomes concrete.
