SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) — Police in Springfield say one man was arrested Monday in connection with a fatal shooting over the weekend.
According to Springfield Police, 20-year-old Raekwon Hall was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Antonio Moore.
Moore died in the shooting Sunday morning at the Ronez Manor Apartments.
According to Sgt. James Byron of the Springfield Police Division, authorities were called to the apartments near East Home Road and North Belmont Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on a report of a shooting.
Neighbors who spoke with 2 NEWS Sunday said the incident makes them feel far less safe.
“My door was closed and all I heard was a bunch of screaming,” said Jasmine, a neighbor who asked 2 NEWS not to share her last name or show her face on-camera.
Jasmine said she woke up to the sound of four gunshots. Moments later, she ran outside, found a male victim lying on the ground and called 911, she said.
“They told us to go get clothing out of my house to put on the wounds of the victim,” Jasmine said. “I ran in and grabbed my sweatshirt and one of my t-shirts to put on his wounds.”
Two other females also tried to help, Jasmine said, one of whom was screaming and crying. First responders arrived moments later, but the victim couldn’t be revived.
“I was devastated,” Jasmine said. “I was terrified. My child was upstairs, asleep in my bed. She’s only six months old.”
Neighbors who spoke with 2 NEWS said many families with young children live in the area. Jasmine said she has also seen police respond to the apartment complex before for other incidents.
Danielle Merrill, who lives in the apartment complex and has an infant son, said she’s considering moving. For now, she said she plans to be more cautious.
“Make sure the doors are locked and the windows,”: Merrill said. “And I’m trying to save up to get out of here. I’m ready to be out of here.”
Hall pleaded not guilty to the charge in Clark County Municipal Court. Bond in the amount of $100,000 was posted.
