Promoting heart health is at the center of a local benefit.
The second annual Spring For the Heart Benefit is being held by KAP For The Heart.
KAP For The Heart was founded three years ago in the memory of 23-year-old Kieran Popp who died from sudden cardiac arrest.
Popp’s family wasn’t aware of his fatal heart disease. Doctors say the condition could have been treated.
Now, Popp’s family is raising awareness so other families can make sure their loved ones get the treatment they need.
“As students are going off to college, we want them to be aware that heart conditions can affect them,” Kieran Popp’s mother Jeanene Popp said. “My son was 23, and I don’t think we understood that a 23-year-old could have heart disease.”
Friday’s benefit is from 6 p.m. until midnight at the American Legion Post 707 in Englewood.
Proceeds go to the Kieran Popp memorial scholarship fund.
