DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – If you and your family are looking for Christmas lights that kick it up a notch, check out this list of unique light displays that aren’t too far from home. 

The Legendary Lights of Clifton Mill

Clifton Mill’s unique holiday display features nearly 4 million lights and is in the running for USA Today’s “Best Public Holiday Lights Display” competition! The site’s historic mill, gorge, riverbanks, bridges, and trees are completely covered in lights, and there’s even a 100-foot “waterfall” made of lights! Visitors will also find an outdoor miniature Christmas village, Santa Claus Museum, a Toy Collection, and a synchronized lights and music show.

WHEN:

  • Nov. 23 – Dec 31. from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
  • Closes at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve

  • $10/person
  • Children 6 and under are free

Woodland Lights

Woodland Lights offers visitors a fantasy land of holiday lights and displays along a half-mile wooded path. Every night features amusement rides, live animals, carriage rides, bonfires, and concessions provided by local vendors. Special event nights include Pet Nights with SICSA, train nights, and visits from the cast of Town Hall Theatre’s “Mr. Popper’s Penguins.”

WHEN:

  • Friday through Sunday until Dec. 2 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
  • Every night beginning Dec. 7 – Dec. 23 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

  • Children 2 and under are free

A Carillon Christmas

Carillon Historical Park’s 65-acre campus has transformed into a winter wonderland full of sparkle, magic, and holiday cheer! The event features 15 miles of Christmas lights, train rides, refreshments, carolers, shopping, and more.

WHEN: 

  • Nov. 28 – Dec. 30
  • Sunday – Thursday: 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday: 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.
  • Closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

WHERE: 

  •  1000 Carillon Blvd. in Dayton

COST: 

  • $10/adult (ages 18-59)
  • $9/senior (ages 60+)
  • $7/child (ages 3-17)
  • Children under 3 are free
  • Dayton History Members are free

Fort St. Clair’s Whispering Christmas

Whispering Christmas began in 1987 with only 800 lights and has grown into a drive-thru display that now features over 2 million lights! Stop by Santa’s Cabin for refreshments and be sure to visit the little Christmas Village.

WHEN:

  • Nov. 23: 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 24 – Nov. 30: 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. (Drive-thru only, Santa’s Cabin will be closed)
  • Dec. 1 – Dec. 24: 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Dec. 25 – Dec. 31: 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. (Drive-thru only, Santa’s Cabin will be closed)

WHERE:

  • 135 Camden Rd. in Eaton

COST: 

  • Admission is free but donations are encouraged

Light Up Middletown

This holiday driving tour begins with a tunnel of lights and takes visitors through various themed areas at Smith Park. You may spot a floating Sea Serpent, Santa’s Workshop, Penguin Village, deer leaping over the roadway, just to name a few! Santa and Mrs. Claus will even make appearances on Friday and Saturday nights.

  • Nov. 22 – Dec. 31: 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

WHERE:

  • 500 Tytus Ave. in Middletown

COST: 

  • Admission is free but donations are encouraged
