Son charged with father’s murder calls 911 to report death

Local News

A father is dead and his son is behind bars charged with his murder. 54-year-old David Simpson remains in the Greene County Jail, facing felonious assault and murder charges in connection with his father’s death, 85-year-old Ora Simpson.

According to court records, Simpson’s son told a police officer at the hospital that he used a knife to cut his father’s throat. Neighbors say they’re in disbelief.

“I just thought maybe he had died because of his health or something,” the neighbor said. “But the police man told us they had taken David into custody.”

54-year-old David Simpson’s mugshot was taken moments after a calm and monotone Simpson called 911 to report his father dead.

“My dad who is 85 and has congestive heart failure,” Simpson told the dispatcher. “Is laying dead in the garage.”

According to court documents, police were called to this home on Felton Drive near Crystal Marie Drive in Beavercreek early Sunday.

When officers arrived they observed blood on David’s sweater, blood on the carpet and a trail of blood from the kitchen leading to the living.

David told police he and his father Ora got into argument the night before and said his father struck him. He then said he passed out for 8 to 10 hours.

When he woke up to take out the trash, he told officers that’s when he noticed his father’s body in the garage.

“I told him he needed to go to the hospital,” Simpson told dispatchers. “And that’s when he knocked me out.”

2 NEWS knocked on the home’s door Tuesday, but there was no answer. Neighbors say the father and son lived together and described Ora as friendly, long time neighbor who was also a retired air force veteran.

“He was a wonderful person,” the neighbor said. “Very kind. Very responsible. Very personable. He made friends with everyone.”

Neighbors say Ora and his son David had a rocky relationship, but didn’t want to go into specific details about their relationship. If convicted, David Simpson now faces 15 years to life in prison.
