Thunderstorm wind damage on Mother’s Day

MIAMI VALLEY, Ohio (WDTN) – A line of severe thunderstorms raced across the Miami Valley between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. At one point there were severe thunderstorm warnings 215 miles across Ohio from Cincinnati to Toledo. There were several reports of tree damage, siding damage, and power outages. 2 News viewers sent photos of some of the damage.

5:20 p.m. There is no longer a severe thunderstorm threat in the Miami Valley. The peak wind gust reported was 59 mph at the Springfield Airport. A 58 mph gust was reported at the Dayton Airport.

3:38 p.m. 58 mph wind gusts recorded at the Dayton Airport. This is a Severe Thunderstorm. Stay inside until the storm passes. Tree damage and power outages are likely. There is a severe thunderstorm warning across the Miami Valley. A line of storms has developed along a cold front with warnings from Toledo to Cincinnati. There’s currently 215 miles of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings.

3:15 p.m. Severe Thunderstorms Tracking across the Miami Valley from Bellefontaine to Middletown. 60 mph wind gusts and penny-sized hail possible. Stay indoors there is a lot of lightning. Wind gusts are strong. Power outages are likely. Avoid being near windows to avoid any possible debris.

2:15 p.m. Update: Right now the stronger storms are tracking just north of the Miami Valley in Putnam, Western Defiance, Paulding, Van Wert, and Williams County. Wind gusts are up to 60 mph. A line of storms is developing south of this area and will stretch across the Miami Valley. Storms will track across the region between now and 5 p.m.

12:30 p.m. Update: A line of thunderstorms is developing in Central Indiana. So far these storms are capable of producing 40 mph wind gust and nickel-sized hail. These storms will likely strengthen as they approach the Miami Valley.

The latest timeline looks to be between 1:30 pm and 5 pm. Strong wind gusts greater than 60 mph will be the main concern. Be inside and away from windows, especially if there is a severe thunderstorm warning.

Morning Forecast: Scattered showers and storms will be developing this afternoon across the Miami Valley. A few storms may have the potential to become severe. Gusty winds, heavy rain and hail are the main threats this afternoon. Temperatures will still be running below average for this time of the year.

Cool weather continues through mid week with overnight lows in the 30s. Warmer temperatures can be expected by the end of the weeks with highs approaching 80 by next weekend.
