DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – An officer issued a “Signal 99” for additional backup after shots were fired at a Dayton apartment building on Rockford Avenue around 9 pm Friday night.
Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl says that around 8:45 pm police were in the area and were flagged down for reports of a man who was slashing tires.
Officers knocked on the man's door to confront him about the issue, when he shoved a gun out the door.
An officer then fired three shots, striking the man twice.
He was taken to the hospital and is in serious but stable condition.
Authorities say the man has a prior history with police.
The "Signal 99" was canceled around 9:07 pm.
