Sentencing begins for Dayton man charged with trying to join ISIS

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The sentencing hearing for a Dayton man charged with trying to join ISIS began on Friday but a decision has not yet been reached.

28-year-old Laith Alebbini faces up to 40 years in prison after he was found guilty of attempting to provide material support and resources to the foreign terrorist organization.

He was arrested in April of 2017 at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport trying to board a flight to Jordan.

The court adjourned Friday without handing down Alebbini’s punishment.
