DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Six months after it was destroyed in a fire, the Oregon District’s Salar restaurant is hoping to re-open in a matter of months.
“Definitely going to be this summer,” general manager Meg Shaw said. “We are looking at the month of August. We don’t have a specific date yet so we’ll kind of see. As soon as we know something, we’ll go ahead and post that.”
Salar went up in flames on December 29th 2017, leaving dozens without a job.
It was closed indefinitely, but over the past six months the restaurant has been rebuilding – preparing for its re-opening. And today, they hosted a hiring event, invited people to apply for a job.
“It’s definitely a rebound. We’re very very excited,” Shaw said. “Everything is starting to come together. Especially in the back of the house. We’ve got paint going up and everything this week so this is the next step for us.”
Inside the restaurant today, construction crews have made progress.
Shaw says as they continue to rebuild, she’s grateful for support from the community.
“I’m mean from that first week – the staff over at Blind Bobs having that fundraiser for our staff – all the way up to right now, people are constantly checking in with us,” Shaw said. “Every time we’re here, someone’s knocking on the door to see how we’re doing.”
