DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Greater Dayton RTA is adjusting services around a planned detour while street closures are in place in downtown Dayton during Saturday’s planned rally by a KKK-affiliated group.
RTA bus detours started Thursday, May 23, and Wright Stop Plaza will be closed starting Friday evening, May 24, lasting through Sunday afternoon, May 26.
The detours will start Thursday once Ludlow between Second and Fourth Streets, and the intersection of Main and Third Streets shut down.
All access to streets surrounding Courthouse Square will be blocked starting Friday evening around 7 pm. The closures will affect all routes, and buses will not be using Wright Stop Plaza beginning around 7 pm on Friday through Sunday afternoon.
Monument Avenue near RiverScape MetroPark will close Saturday morning at 10 am, but RTA will start its reroutes around the area on Friday at 7 pm to coincide with all ofther RTA detours.
All RTA routes will be affected in some way during this time. They are asking residents to be patient, as some routes could be running late due to the detours and extra time given to customers to find their buses at the temporary lineup locations around the Dayton Metro Library.
Extra RTA staff will be on hand to assist customers during this time. All riders are encouraged to ask questions if they do not know where they should go to catch their bus.
To see where buses will line up once Wright Stop Plaza closes, see the attached map below:
Southbound and eastbound buses will line up on St. Clair Street between Third and Second streets, while northbound and westbound buses will line up on Patterson Avenue between Third and Second streets.
During bus lineups where both county and city buses wait for passengers, the westbound buses for Routes 1, 2 and 4 will line up on the westbound side of Third Street between the intersections of Wayne and Patterson avenues. Eastbound buses for the Routes 1, 2, and 4 will line up on the eastbound side of the street across from the library. These lineups are: Friday at 11:30 p.m., Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., and Sunday at 12:50 a.m., 6:50 a.m., and 3 p.m. The Sunday 6:30 p.m. double lineup will also be included if road closures are still in effect at that time.
All stops in the area between Wilkinson Street to Jefferson Street, stretching from Fourth Street to First Street will be closed, as the city plans to block off all access in this area.
