TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) – 2 NEWS has obtained new video of a crash that killed three people when a car slammed into an RTA bus earlier this month.
No one riding the bus suffered life-threatening injuries, but we do want to warn you that the video may be considered graphic or hard to watch by some viewers.
The bus had a green light and was crossing the intersection of OH- 49 and Free Pike around 5:30 on March 10 in Trotwood when a car going over 100 miles per hour ran a red light, slamming into its rear.
One angle shows the moment of impact being so forceful, it pushes the bus over and slides it across the road on its side into a guardrail.
The bus driver and five passengers did receive treatment at a hospital after being flung around inside the bus but nobody inside received any serious injuries.
Trotwood police say the car was running from a traffic stop after an officer flicked on their lights for a few seconds, noticing the car’s expired registration.
They say the officer did not pursue the car after realizing the car’s speed was increasing and it wasn’t going to stop.
The car burst into flames after the crash, and all three inside the car have died.
The RTA CEO says that in his 13 years, he has never seen a bus roll this way in a crash.
2 NEWS is working to obtain the accident report from Trotwood Police.
