KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN)- Home surveillance cameras are becoming much more common. The Kettering Police Department said those cameras can often help find suspects after a crime.
It’s why they are now encouraging residents to register their surveillance cameras with the department.
“If anything happens, especially if there’s a rash of crimes, we can pinpoint those cameras and see if we can find any video,” said Joe Ferrell, public information officer for the department.
Since a Facebook post promoting the program was published last week, about two dozen residents have signed up for the program. Homes that are registered are added onto the department’s crime mapping system.
“We can go contact those citizens and just ask to look at their video feed that’s been archived,” Ferrell said.
