Dayton shooting victim dies at Grandview Medical Center

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A teen girl shot in Dayton Tuesday has died at a local hospital.

The Montgomery County Coroner identifies the victim as 17-year-old Lashonda Childs from Dayton.

The shooting happened around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday on Shoop Avenue by Kammer Avenue.

Dayton Police tell 2 NEWS that officers were responding to a home on Shoop Ave. for a violation of a temporary protection order when they received a call that a female shooting victim had arrived at one of the nearby hospitals.

The victim was transported to Grandview Medical Center. Police said the victim suffered life threatening injuries.

Witnesses say they head an unknown amount of gunshots and saw a car speed away.

Childs died at Grandview Medical Center around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Police arrested a man in connection with the shooting just after 6 p.m. Tuesday on S. Mummaw Street.

He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a felonious assault charge. There's no word yet if those charges will be amended after the victim's death.
