30-year-old man shot near BP on Salem Avenue dies

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A man shot near the BP on Lexington Avenue and Salem Avenue Tuesday has died.

The Montgomery County Coroner confirmed that Daniel Burch, 30, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital following the incident where he later died.

Montgomery County Regional Dispatch said that the shooting happened around 5:12 p.m. following a standoff on Superior Avenue. Police were approached as they cleared that scene and were told about the incident on Lexington Avenue.

The witnesses told police that a man with a handgun took Burch into an alley and they heard several gunshots after that.

Dayton police officers responded immediately and were able to locate the suspect, who proceeded to drop the gun and run. He was caught shortly after and taken into custody.

The cause of Burch’s death has not been released at this time.
