MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) – An inmate who walked away from work detail in the area of the Dayton Art Institute Thursday is now in custody.
The inmate, Brandon Wayne Dotson, was originally sentenced to the Montgomery County Jail on a misdemeanor theft charge by Vandalia Municipal Court.
Officers from Grandview Hospital Police Department and the Dayton Police Department assisted in the search for Dotson.
He was taken into custody around 1:20 pm in the 300 block of Geyer Street.
The Sheriff’s Office plans to present felony escape charges to the prosecutor’s office and Dotson will no longer qualify for the Inmate Worker Program.
Sheriff Plummer commented that Dotson’s choice to attempt an escape casts a negative light on all the positive aspects of the Inmate Worker Program that provides work training to non-violent offenders, saves county taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars per year, and helps keep the roadways of our county free from litter.
The incident remains under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit.
