Police begin homicide investigation after Dayton shooting leaves 1 dead

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A homicide investigation is underway in Dayton after a shooting Tuesday night left a 23-year-old man dead.

Around 10 p.m. on February 5, Dayton Police officers responded to the 2100 block of North Main Street for reports of a person shot.

Upon arrival, officers found a man, identified by the Coroner’s Office as 23-year-old Damian Chancellor, in a nearby alley. He had been shot at least one time.

He was taken to Grandview Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigation show that a group of people were involved in some sort of altercation at the location. One person was reportedly heard making a threatening statement, and then a gunshot was heard.

The group then ran off, leaving the victim behind.
