2 arrested after motel standoff in Moraine

Miami Valley News

MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) – Two suspects were arrested following an hours-long standoff at a Moraine hotel Sunday.

According to Moraine Police, the standoff began just before 8 a.m. Sunday when police found a stolen vehicle parked outside the Relax Inn on South Dixie Drive.

Police traced the stolen vehicle occupants to a room at the motel. After confronting a male and female, police say they were met with threats of violence by the pair who said they had guns and bombs. The suspects barricaded themselves in their room. The motel’s other guest were evacuated.

The stand off came to an end a little before 2:40 p.m. Sunday when the male and female peacefully surrendered. Police say both were arrested and could face potential charges. The male suspect had a warrant for his arrest for a parole violation.

“It’s a very tedious situation when we have somebody that we are dealing with that’s barricaded, allegations of weapons and threats of violence against the police,” said Sgt. Andrew Parish of the Moraine Police. “When we initiate negotiations and get them on the phone it’s a very long process that goes into that. We appreciate everybody’s patience and understanding as we dealt through that and we got what we wanted in the end and that’s a peaceful resolution and a surrender.”
