Police: 5 suspects throw rock through window, rob cell phone store

Local News

The search is on for 5 suspects involved in a cell phone store robbery at a Boost Mobile on West Second Street in Xenia.

For the first time, we’re seeing new surveillance video of the robbery. It’s one of 3 other robberies reported this week. Police say cell phone stores in Englewood, Troy, Dayton and Xenia were all robbed.

It all happened in a matter of seconds. Police say five suspects broke the window at the Boost Mobile in Xenia, stealing cell phones, clothes and tablets. The store manager says it has cost him more than $10,000 in combined damages and merchandise loss.

Launching a large rock through the glass window, the 5 suspects wasted no time kicking through the glass to get inside the store. After a few seconds, they were able to break enough glass to get through the window.

Adam Ali who manages East Main Connection–a Boost Mobile retailer–on West Second Street in Xenia is still shaken up.

“It’s kind of scary,” Ali said. “I feel not safe.”

In the video, you can see each suspect move quickly around store. One took a computer monitor while the other jumped over the counter. Judging by the video, Ali says, all of them seemed to know exactly what they’re looking for. He worries the group may have previously scouted out the store as customers.

The video shows one suspect attempting to kick the back office door open, but he’s not successful. He eventually heads to the exit.

The last suspect–with iPads in hand–opened the cash register and frantically grabbed several dollar bills from the drawer. Two of the suspects can be seen leaving with full racks of clothes. One of them tripped as she tried to exited the broken window. Seconds later the three of other suspects emerged with several belts, cell phones and iPads. All of them then drove away in a 4-door silver Buick–which police say was stolen from a Dominos delivery driver.

Minutes before the robbery, you can see the suspect remove the dominos car topper from the trunk.

Ali says he has a message for the suspects.

“If somebody got into your house and stole your stuff how are you going to feel,” Ali said. “Well, we feel the same way. It’s so bad that it happened. It’s unfortunate and hopefully it won’t happen again.”

This isn’t the only cell phone store robbery reported this week. There were also robberies in Dayton, Englewood and Troy. So far, no suspects have been arrested in any of the robberies.
