Payless distribution center in Brookville closing May 1

BROOKVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) – Payless says it expects to fire all employees at its Brookville warehouse on or about May 1, meaning over 200 people will lose their jobs.

On February 18, 2019, Payless ShoeSource, Inc. and certain affiliates and subsidiaries filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Missouri.

In a release, Payless officials say that because of this filing, the company expects to terminate all of its employees at 1 Collective Way in Brookville.

The process of letting the roughly 217 employees go is set to begin on or close to May 1, 2019.

This shutdown follows the closure of thousands of Payless shoe stores nationwide.
