One person in custody after teen shot in head in Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Police say a teenager is expected to recover after being shot in the head in Dayton Tuesday night.

According to police, the shooting happened around 10 pm Tuesday after a fight on Huffman Avenue.

A 19-year-old was driving away from the scene of the fight when someone fired shots.

One of the bullets went through the windshield and hit the teen in the head.

He drove himself to the Speedway on Huffman, near South Smithville Road, where employees called 911.

Authorities say the teen walked into the gas station with a gunshot wound to the top of his head.

The teen was taken to a hospital with reported non-life threatening injuries.

More than four hours after the shooting, a man was taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

The suspect was arrested on Cherrywood Avenue in Dayton just after 2:30 am Wednesday.

That man is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a felonious assault charge.

The shooting remains under investigation.
