Ohio truckers protest fuel tax, safety conditions

Local News

LONDON, Ohio (WDTN) – Truck drivers held a peaceful protest on the highways toward Columbus on Friday.

The truckers drove 45 miles per hour around the Columbus loop as a way to protest the proposed increased fuel tax on diesel, lack of training for new drivers, lack of parking for drivers to pull over and sleep, and too much government regulation.

“We’re not out here to shut any highways down. This is a peaceful protest, so we’ve got the motoring public safety in mind, we’re not trying to hinder anybody, but we are trying to get our voices heard to make the roads safer,” says trucker Scott Reed.

About 40 truckers met at Speedway in London, Ohio, to participate.
