DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Ohio Task Force 1 continues to work on the Florida gulf coast in the wake of Hurricane MIchael.

The team, which expanded to include three K-9 teams, conducted ground searches in Mexico Beach Tuesday. Hurricane Michael made landfall in Mexico Beach, and the community was one of the hardest hit by the powerful storm.

Task Force 1 will continue ground searches in the area Wednesday.

“This is a critical effort for the recovery of the area,” Ohio Task Force 1 spokesperson Phil Sinewe said. “The residents of the Florida Panhandle have many obstacles to overcome, and our team’s contribution to that recover should make all of us proud.”

Sinewe says the three K-9 teams are Human Remain Detection units that are certified both federally and locally.

According to Sinewe, the team is able to split up into small 3-5 person groups in certain search situations.
