KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) ā€“ Ohio Task Force 1 (OHTF1) hit the road Tuesday morning, heading to a location in North Carolina in response to Hurricane Florence.

OHTF1 received activation orders this week to deploy a Water Ready Package (WRP) to Kinston, North Carolina.

The WRP will consist of a 16-member team that allows US&R resources to establish or enhance US&R operations in a water environment and is capable of continuous 24-hour operations.

The 16-member team will be comprised of:

  • One Water Rescue Manager
  • Two Water Rescue Squad Officers
  • Four Boat Operators
  • Five Water Rescue Specialists
  • One Logistics Specialist
  • One Medical Specialist
  • Two Support Specialists

The team will assist with urban search and rescue once Hurricane Florence hits the east coast. Officials say this is a smaller, more specialized group that Task Force One usually mobilized, due to the type of assistance they’ll be asked to provide.

According to officials, another group could be activated by FEMA in the coming days, depending on the severity of the storm.
