ODOT crews prepare for weekend snow

MIAMISBURG, Ohio(WDTN)- The Ohio Department of Transportation started pre-treating roads for the weekend snowstorm on Thursday. Through Friday, they were out on the roads laying down brine, while it was still dry. They also spent the day double checking their equipment.

Many people around the Miami Valley have waited for this winter storm for some time.

"I'll take the kids out and go sledding. I'll let the dog run around. It'll be fun," Rob Liges said. He is not worried about driving in the winter conditions. "I work outside a lot so we have to deal with the weather. I do a lot of driving so you just have to take it slow," Liges said.

Snow plow drivers with the ODOT will work to clear snow as soon as it falls.

"They will make sure that they are out there and ready to go as the storm is hitting so that they really have a good chance to stay ahead of the storm," Mandi Dillon, public information officer for ODOT District 7 said.

Snow is expected to fall throughout the day. That will be beneficial for plow drivers clearing snow.

"When it comes down all at once, we're really kind of in a race with mother nature. So, if it's a slow snow, it's a little bit easier on our crews," Dillon said.

ODOT District 7 has their massive stock piles of salt on hand for the season. They also have up 100 trucks ready to lay it down if needed. Drivers will go into work at 3 a.m. on Saturday to wait for the snow. They will be on 12-hours shifts for the weekend until snow along state roads are cleared.

Area residents like Randy Ridell are prepared to clear snow on their own property. "I got a snow blower so bring it on I guess," Ridell said. He will leave the roadways to the snow plows. "I think I'll just pack it in and stay in pretty much. Let them do their job and I'll do my job at home."
