Non-profit organization hosts “peace rally”

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – As many were honoring the many men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country, another group used the day to highlight another cause, promoting non-violence.

The baskets of hearts filled with love just became a group this past year, and have done a number of events since November 2017.

During the month of May, they held a gun buy back event, hoping to get as many guns off the streets as possible, and in fact received their last gun that they will turn into Dayton Police on Memorial Day.

The peace rally was held from 3-8 p.m. at McIntosh Park with a balloon release at 7 p.m. honoring and remembering all lives lost to violence.

One organizer said the event went better than anticipated and hope to make this an annual event around this time of year.
