DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A Montgomery County Grand Jury has chosen not to indict a Miami Township police officer involved in a deadly shooting in December 2017.
The shooting happened on December 20, 2017 at the Oakwood Village mobile home park on Del Barton Avenue near Aldora Drive. Police responded to reports of a suicidal man early on December 20th.
Police said Edwards had what appeared to be a weapon and did not comply with officers. After investigating, it was determined Edwards had a pellet gun when he was shot.
Miami Township Police Chief Ron Hess after the shooting, said authorities had information that Edwards might have been intoxicated and that there were several other people in a trailer
Miami Township Police placed McCarty on paid administrative leave after the shooting, per department policy.
The Grand Jury returned no true bills of indictment against the officer, meaning he will not face criminal charges.
The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office is expected to release more information later Wednesday.
