Neighbors save girl from dog attack

Local News

An 8-year-old Miami Township girl is recovering after a pit bull grabbed her by the head over the weekend.

The incident happened at Oakwood Village Trailer Court on Saturday.

A family noticed a girl screaming between two trailers and jumped into action, saving the girls life.

“I ran towards the door, saw the dog and immediately ran,” said Dylan Lane, a resident of the park.

He saw a young girl with her head between her knees, a pit bull biting her head.

“As soon as I saw the dog. I grabbed the leash and collar from the little girl. Tried to restrain it. Choked it just a little so it would loosen its grip, then it finally released,” said Lane.

Lane says the dog calmed down some, but still made attempts to go after the girl.

“As soon as it calmed down, it sat next to me. Not even trying to attack me. But as soon as it saw that little girl, it started lunging. I had to choke it back some more, trying to hold it from getting lose,” said Lane.

It’s not clear if the dog’s owners will be charged.

The girl’s family has allowed Lane to visit her in the hospital. He says she had several surgeries and has received more than 400 stitches.

Other residents told 2 NEWS off-camera that pit bulls are not allowed in the park. We reached out to park management and did not hear back.
