MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) – Neighbors helped a family escape from their home after it went up in flames, Monday morning.
A woman says she and her husband saw the fire and immediately sprang into action.
It all happened at 2am. The blaze leaving behind burn marks and damage at a home on Turf Club Court.
Jessica Bernard lives next door. She says she and her husband, Brendon Sexton, were on their way home from the airport when they saw the flames and the smoke.
“The residents had no idea at all that their house was on fire,” Bernard said. “There were huge flames in the garage and a ton of black smoke coming up. And of course it was two in the morning so you could tell that they had no idea.”
And their neighbors were in for quite the wake up call.
“I rushed out of the car and called 911,” Bernard continued. “My husband started banging on the door.”
After a few minutes of yelling and banging, Bernard says the family woke up and got out of the house safely – just as firefighters made their way around the corner.
No one was injured, and fire officials say the family will be able to stay in their home.
Bernard said she’s just grateful her and husband just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
“My husband left for work this morning and he talked to the resident there and he was like, ‘Thank you so much.’ They obviously had no idea at the time so we’re just really thankful that everyone got out, okay,” she said.
The cause is under investigation.
