DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – An amended complaint was filed Thursday to charge a Dayton teen as an adult for a homicide that occurred at DoubleTree Suites last month.

Employees of DoubleTree Suites on Prestige Place in Miami Township called 911 on September 14 to report a shooting.

Upon arrival, police located the body of 19-year-old Jayren Lemaiere Joseph Graham in the parking lot of the hotel. He had been shot at close range.

A tip led investigators to the defendant.

Further investigation, including witness statements and video surveillance, placed a 17-year-old at the scene and identified him as the shooter.

An amended complaint was filed Thursday charging the minor with:

  • Four counts of Murder
  • Two counts of Aggravated Robbery
  • Two counts of Felonious Assault
  • Two counts of Tampering with Evidence
  • One count of Carrying Concealed Weapons
  • One count of Improper Handling of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle

The Murder, Aggravated Robbery, and Felonious Assault counts include three-year firearm specifications.

A motion has been filed to transfer the teen to be tried as an adult, due to the seriousness of the crimes, the suspect’s age, and his lengthy juvenile criminal record.

The transfer is considered mandatory under Ohio law.

Prosecutor Mat Heck, Jr. said, “This defendant fatally shot another teen in a parking lot of a crowded Miami Township hotel. We cannot allow such violent juveniles to only be held at the Department of Youth Services until age 21. This defendant will be tried, convicted, and sentenced accordingly.”
