Longtime Montgomery County Juvenile Court Judge Nick Kuntz has died.

According to fellow Juvenile Court Judge Anthony Capizzi, Kuntz died Monday afternoon at a hospital in Wilmington, North Carolina after falling at his vacation home.

Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr., upon hearing of the death of Juvenile Court Judge Nick Kuntz, issued the following statement:

“Judge Nick Kuntz was a most dedicated and highly respected judge and public servant.  Most of his career was dedicated to Juvenile Justice, working for the Montgomery County Juvenile Court, many years as the court administrator and then as the presiding judge.  He was always fair, protecting the rights and interests of the juveniles who appeared before him, while also balancing the rights of victims and safety of the community.  He was looking forward to retirement next year and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was a good friend and will be greatly missed.”

Kuntz had planned to retire on January 1, 2019.

He was 75-years-old.
