DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Police are working to learn how a man was shot in Dayton Friday morning.

Authorities say a woman and man were driving near Shoup Mill Road when they began experiencing trouble with a tire on their car.

The man told officers the woman pulled the car over in the 100 block of North James H. McGee Boulevard around 9:30 Friday morning.

He told police he got out of the car to check the tire, when he heard a popping noise. The man said he looked down and realized he had been shot.

The man says he got back into the car, before the woman drove to a nearby Marathon gas station, at which time they called 911 to report the shooting.

Police say the man was taken to a local hospital where he is listed as stable.

Authorities interviewed the woman driving the car. She said she didn’t hear anything or see anyone leaving the area after the man was shot.

Police didn’t find any bullet holes in the vehicle or any evidence at the scene. Officers tell 2 NEWS they don’t believe they’re getting complete information from the man and woman.

The incident remains under investigation.
