Man escapes from house fire in Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Authorities say a man escaped from a house fire in Dayton Wednesday morning.

Crews responded to reports of a fire on N. Hatfield Street, near Calhoun Street, just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from a one-story house.

Crews also found a man lying on the sidewalk. Authorities say the man escaped from the burning home before crews arrived.

Medics were requested to the scene to treat the man. Fire officials say the man refused treatment at the scene.

According to authorities, firefighters did a sweep of the house, but did not find anyone else.

DP&L was called to the scen as well.

Fire officials have not released a cause of the fire or an estimate of damages.
