BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) – 2 NEWS has learned more detail about the man accused of taking photographs of a child in a store’s fitting room.
According to a police report on the incident, a Beavercreek Police officer was called to the Old Navy store at The Greene on May 4.
When the officer arrived he met with a woman and the store manager in the back office. The victim’s step-mother told police the child went into a fitting room to try on a swimsuit.
The report states while the child was in the fitting room someone came up near the curtain and placed a cell phone underneath.
The child kicked the phone away and continued to dress. According to the report the suspect again placed the phone under the dressing room curtain and again, the child kicked the phone away.
The child left the dressing a minute later and told her mother what had happened.
The store manager showed the officer security video of the store during the incident. According to the report, the suspect can be seen entering the store wearing a black hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head. The man can then be seen walking around the store and selecting clothing which he draped over his arm.
The officer states in his report the man can be seen staring in the direction of the dressing room. When the child came out of the dressing room in a swimsuit, the man can be seen on video taking a photo or video of the child from down the aisle, according to the report.
The officer states in the report that when the child went back into the dressing room the man can be seen approaching the dressing room, bends down and appears to place his phone under the curtain.
The man then left the store dropping the clothes draped over his arm near the front door.
Police advise citizens to remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings while shopping in any place where this kind of opportunity could arise.
