Mahle-Behr looks to hire up to 100 workers on spot at hiring event

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A skilled worker shortage continues to impact the Miami Valley and the demand is only increasing.

Now, some companies are thinking of different ways to fill openings.

Mahle-Behr said they are the largest single site employer for manufacturing in Dayton, and are looking to hire up to 100 workers on the spot at hiring event Thursday, Aug. 23.

Mahle-Behr currently employs about 1600 workers, but that number is almost double what it was one decade ago, and is still going up.

"Typically here at Mahle-Behr, I hire anywhere from 20-40 people a week," said human resource generalist, Jason Gibson.

But the manufacturing site is experiencing what so many others are - a shortage of qualified candidates.

"Whether it's social media, whether it's job fairs, reaching out to various recruiting partners, recruiting sources, everyone's trying everything right now," said president of Manpower Dayton, Tom Maher.

Mahle-behr is holding a hiring event Thursday, Aug. 23 at Drury Inn and Suites North and hope to hire up to 100 local people on the spot for both unskilled and experienced production positions.

"Someone can come in if they've never had any kind of automotive work or anything else like that before, and we will train them from the ground up," said Gibson.

Gibson said they are also hiring for skilled trade positions like electricians.

But Maher said if building automotive thermal parts at Mahle-Behr is not your preference, there could be an opening out there with your name on it.

"There are more and more opportunities everyday coming available," said Maher. "Not only in manufacturing, but also in logistics and contact centers, and it's steady, so I don't think we're going to see any slowing down."

The hiring event is at Drury Inn North, 6616 Miller Ln., from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
