Kettering police lieutenant retires after 31 years of service

KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) — The Kettering Police Department announced Friday that Lt. T.R. Smart, a 31-year-veteran of the department, officially retired Dec. 25, 2020.

Smart started with the KPD as a patrol officer in 1989, he became a sergeant in 2000 and a lieutenant in 2010. While with the KPD, Smart served as a: bike patrolman, evidence technician, detective, use of force coordinator, SWAT and SWAT commander.

Kettering police officials wish Smart a long and enjoyable retirement.
