MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) – A juvenile suspect is in custody in connection to a 19-year-old who was shot to death outside a hotel Thursday night.

He was found in New Lebanon.

Miami Township Police responded to a 911 call around 11 p.m. Thursday night after a DoubleTree Suites employee was killed from an apparent gunshot wound outside the hotel.

Friday morning, Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed that victim as 19-year-old Jayren Graham.

The 911 call came from another DoubleTree Suites employee who detailing hearing a gunshot and a car squeal off before walking around outside, and finding Graham.

Miami Township Police confirmed Graham died at the scene and called for the Montgomery County Coroner.

Friday, DoubleTree Suites released this statement to WDTN – “We offer our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones at this difficult time. He was a valued member of our team, loved and respected by his co-workers. His loss is being deeply felt by us all.”

Miami Township police are investigating the shooting, and said although many people feel in recent years this particular stretch of complexes has seen an increase in crime, there is nothing specific about this area that attracts trouble.

“Where you have a concentrated area with that number of businesses, that number of guests and you have a population of people, it turns out there’s nothing unique about that area, or those hotels, or that hotel,” said Captain John Magill of Miami Township Police. “I think any place where you have a large volume of business, you’re going to have associated with that, some crime.”

Magill said it seems Graham was meeting someone outside when the shooting occurred, so there is no need for anyone in that area to be alarmed or on high alert, but advises everyone to always use extreme caution when out.

Magill also said detectives have received some information from witnesses, but are asking for anybody or any business that may have seen anything in that area between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. or has a surveillance camera to contact them.
