2 people killed in 9-vehicle crash on I-75 SB in Shelby County identified

SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) – Two people killed in a 9-vehicle crash in Shelby County Monday have been identified.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the victims as 71-year-old Larry Warner and 71-year-old Penny Warner. OSHP said the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. at U.S. 33 near State Route 219.

Troopers said in total, 9 vehicles were involved, including 2 tractor trailers. They said it occurred as traffic slowed from a previous crash. One vehicle was pushed underneath a semi and caught on fire.

At least 7 other people were injured in the incident. They were all transported to Lima Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to Lt. Carrico, a reconstruction crew was called to the scene to determine what exactly happened.

Crews from Botkins Fire Department, Anna Rescue, Saint Johns Rescue, Wapakoneta EMS, and The Ohio Department of Transportation all assisted at the scene.
