I-75 NB reopens in Dayton after van crashes under box truck

A 47-year-old woman behind the wheel of a van, which slide under a semi-truck is in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital as of Monday evening. Two male passengers inside the van are in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital.

Police were first called to the crash scene at around 5 o’clock Monday evening on I-75 northbound between 3rd Street and Main Street.

“The car was actually struck by one vehicle, which was another truck and then it ping-ponged back into the second vehicle,” Dayton Police Sgt. Charles Anderson said. “Then it was lodged underneath that second vehicle.”

Accident reconstruction teams were called to the scene. While crews investigated the crash, a portion of northbound I-75 remained shut down from U.S. 35 to Main Street.

“The location of where the crash initially started at and ended at was a large area ,” Sgt. Anderson said. “Therefore we had to shutdown the traffic.”

Police say no one else was injured in the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
