DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A SWAT situation ended in Old North Dayton on Sunday after nearly 12 hours.

Dayton Police, Fire, EMS and SWAT were on the scene of a home on Alaska Street in Dayton around noon on Sunday.

Police said a woman reported seeing on a security camera her estranged husband break into a house.

Crews surrounded the house and spent the afternoon on the phone with the man, trying to get him to come out.

Shortly after 11 p.m., officers entered the home and found no one was there. Police believe that the man left the house before they had even got there.

“He wasn’t inside the residence but we weren’t 100 percent sure of that until we went through all the steps to get there,” said Major Christopher Malson with the Dayton Police Department. “So to the community that was affected, we apologize — but this is the safest way for not only the suspect, our police officers, but the community as a whole.”

Detectives are reportedly investigating whether the man who allegedly broke in may have violated a court order requiring him to stay away. As of now, no charges have been filed.
